Council work

I was elected as a member of the Kaarina City Council in April 2025 for the 2025–2029 term. The first city council meeting will be held on June 2nd, during which, among other things, the composition of the City Board will be decided.

After Easter, we will begin political negotiations both within the SDP and with other council groups. Our group is in a strong position in these negotiations, as we increased our number of seats by three as election winners. The leading position of the National Coalition Party (Kokoomus) has narrowed in this election.

In this council term, I am the youngest member of the city council, starting at age of 19. The next youngest are 30-year-old Suvi Kesti (National Coalition Party) and my fellow party member Veera Meltti, who is 31. At the time of election, our oldest council members were 74-year-olds Irja Gustafsson (SDP), Hannu Rautanen (Greens), and Hannu Hurme (National Coalition Party).

In brief, the parties can be positioned along a left–right axis as well as a traditional–liberal axis. The Left Alliance and the Social Democratic Party are left-wing, labor-oriented, and liberal, with the Left Alliance being the most liberal on average. The National Coalition Party, the Finns Party, the Christian Democrats, and the Swedish People's Party are right-wing parties, with the Christian Democrats and the Finns Party being the most conservative. The Greens and the Centre Party display diverse economic views; the Greens are clearly a liberal party, while the Centre Party primarily represents rural interests.

In terms of gender distribution, the council has a female majority, with 31 women and 20 men. In the elections, the candidates who received the most votes were Niina Alho (SDP) with 1,203 votes, Juuso Ranne (SDP) with 315 votes, Mikko Aaltonen (National Coalition Party) with 486 votes, Mira Virta (National Coalition Party) with 322 votes, and Päivi Huhtanen (Greens) with 277 votes.
